Its been a very long time since I've posted to my blog and I apologize for the delay. Life has been crazy lately with two kids, and all kinds of other life altering events. But, I want to let you all know the direction that I would like to go with Hook In Mouth Crochet in the near future. Since I created my page, I have received lots of love from friends and fans all over the world, and I thank you guys for that immensely. Most of what I have done in the past consisted of custom work, baby blankets, and character hats. Now, while I will still be doing ALL of this, I would also like to open an Etsy shop. Im hoping to have it stocked and ready to go in the next week or two.
Where am I going with this? Well, in order for my Etsy shop or my business to thrive, I am going to have to brand myself. I need something that sets me apart from others and will help me make a name for myself among the millions of crocheters on the internet. The obvious choice for me was horror. I want my items to range from cute, creepy, to super gory and I'm super excited about this decision. Along with the opening of my Etsy shop, I plan to revamp my site here and my facebook. So keep an eye out because things are going to get interesting around here in the near future!

I've been wanting to add a blog post dedicated to some of the baby items I have been making lately but kept waiting and waiting to be finished with all my projects. Then I realized, I am never going to be done! I guess the good thing about crocheting and babies, is that they are always changing and growing and will always need more things. Now, there are a couple more things I would really like to finish up before my little one is born, but that really all depends on the timing of everything. Plus, there is no way I would be able to finish all those little projects and get a blog post up in the next 5 days. That' s right, 5 days! So, I decided I would maybe just turn it into a two parter. That way the blog post isn't excruciatingly long (which it probably will be anyway). So, to start off, the first couple items you are seeing are a little hat and mitten set I made for my daughter to come home in. Now, she may or may not actually come home in them depending on the weather and what time of day we come home, but I wanted to be prepared. If I do get a picture of her wearing these, I will try to remember to post it on the next blog. In addition to the little hat and mitten set, I also made her a couple of blankets (of course). The first one, I hope she can actually sleep with, since it is super light. And yes, I know you are not supposed to let your newborn sleep with a blanket, but it is winter and I feel bad when a little one looks cold. That is why I try and make these blankets as light and full of holes as possible. The stitch I used for this one is the Brick V Stitch on Repeat if you would like to try and replicate. The second blanket, she will not be sleeping with. This one I made for the carseat and stroller since it is going to be cold outside for the next couple months. This blanket is made using the Crocodile Stitch. I got the idea from a blanket I saw floating around on the internet a while back. I made a few changes and really love how it turned out. It is super thick and will be very warm. I also have one other blanket I am in the process of working on, as well as a couple other ideas floating around in my head, but I'm not sure if I will get to them. At least, maybe not for my own baby. Either way, look forward to seeing at least one other blanket in the next blog post. The last thing I have actually completed is this diaper caddy. My grandma sent me all sorts of really old crochet magazines recently and there weren't a whole lot of projects I was interested in trying out, but this one seemed practical and cute. It may be a little dated, but it was something new and will definitely be used for those middle of the night, pitch black diaper changes. Plus, it fit in with the colors of our crib set very nicely. The pattern isn't available online, but if there seems to be a lot of interest in it, I will look into whether or not I can scan a copy in. Although, it was very tedious and time consuming so unless you REALLY like it, you may never finish it. I know I will not be making another one. Finally, here is a picture of our "little nursery". In reality, the crib is set up next to our bed because I find it easier when they are first born to have the crib nearby for a few months, also for the sanity of our four year old. It will probably be a few weeks before I get another blog post up, but there will be lots more baby stuff coming in the near future (if you are into that sort of thing). I hope you all check back periodically and I can't wait to see what you all think! Photo Card View the entire collection of cards. The month of December was very successful for me. I got way more orders than I have in the past, and I am super grateful for that. So, thanks to all my fans for their support last year! I can't wait to see what this new year brings for all of us! The hat and scarf combo you are seeing beside this is something I whipped up for my daughter the first week or my little "crochet vacation", lol. She didn't really seem to want to wear her Foofa hat anymore. I guess eventually kids grow out of the Yo Gabba Gabba phase, which is fine. So, I decided to make her something to wear this season that was geared to her more "mature" taste, haha. She really enjoyed the Hello Kitty Hat and Matching Scarf, and can now be warm this winter! One of the other items I got the pleasure of making was a Custom Spongebob Hat. This one was a lot of fun to do and figure out since there were a lot more color changes than I typically do in my hats. I wanted to do this so that I could make the shirt and pants look right. This was also the first time I attempted switching colors in the stringy part of the earflaps (not sure if there is a proper name) Another item I could not wait to post pictures of was this Infant Size Wolverine Hat. It was a pretty simple design but turned out adorable! Luckily for me, they liked it so much, that I may get the pleasure of making another in a larger size! The last of the hats I got to make for my holiday orders, was this Custom Cupcake Hat. This hat was supposed to look like a specific hat from an online game, so I did my best to be as specific as I could with the sculpting and shaping of the hat. Because of this, it ended up a bit heavier than many of my other hats. Mainly because each of the little frosting puffs and the cherry were stuffed so they could be as fluffy as possible. I have also found that any post stitching tends to make things a bit more bulky. This was also my first time really relying on fabric glue, which typically I am not a big fan of. But, for the sprinkles, it ended up working out great. I have tried sewing similar things on in the past, and it tends to just make the yarn fray. Finally, we are left with the last of my big ami order from the holidays. This Custom Little Black Lamb Ami was part of the order that included the car and minion that I posted about in my last blog post. I just had not quite finished this one up when I posted last time. This little guy was really fun to make, and I got to try out the brushing out the yarn technique that I have seen people use before. If you are unfamiliar, basically all you have to do is buy a cat brush and brush out the ami. It leaves it with a bit of a fluffier texture, which I thought would be nice for a lamb. I also added the little blue bow because it was for a baby boy. Below are just a couple extra pictures of the lamb from different angles so you can see everything going on with him. Thanks again for stopping by and reading through all my ramblings, or at least just looking at the pictures. Whatever you are doing, it is much appreciated, as always. Keep coming back, there will be a lot more posts this month. Many of which will be more baby oriented. I already have a few blankets and such made, I am just waiting until after I have the crib up to take better pictures!
For those of you that have been checking back here and wondering what has been going on, I apologize for the lack of blog posts. I have really been slacking lately. Mostly on the blog posts. I have been really busy crocheting, as well as dealing with all of the other craziness that comes with expecting another child. In the past few weeks I have gone Black Friday shopping, had my baby shower, and switched OBGYNs, all while crocheting about a million different things for various Christmas orders. So, needless to say, this might possibly be a long and very picture heavy blog post. But, the pictures are what we all really come to see anyways, right? That first picture in the corner is a shipment of FOUR Oogie Boogies and a custom hat. I never imagined I would be making that many Oogie Boogies! That is also partially the reason I decided to make a FREE pattern, available on my Patterns page. The hat, I really thought turned out quite cute! I may have to make another one for my daughter Violet, or her sister who will be making an appearance in the near future. In addition to those items, I also made a Yoda hat. I fell in love with this one too. Sometimes I find it so hard to actually send out the things that I make because I want to keep them for myself. The ears are a little bigger than Yoda's actual ears, but I think that added to the cuteness factor a little bit. Also, the same week that I was making the Yoda hat, I got a chance to make something I have always wanted to try, which is one of the beard hats. While it may not have been one of the viking ones, which I would have absolutely looooved to do, this one was still very fun to make...and model, hehe. Well, I think that about wraps it up hat-wise. If you were hoping for more hats, don't fret. There will be quite a few more coming up after Christmas. I am just not posting pictures of some of the things I am making because the people receiving gifts are also fans of my page/work and I don't want to spoil any surprises. So, lastly there are a couple of amis that I have been working on. The one pictured above is a Minion from the Despicable Me movie. He was very fun to make and had a lot of details in the face that I had not done before, like the glasses and teeth. I know he is missing a couple design elements, like the logo (which would have been nearly impossible to make out of felt) and the buttons on his overalls, but I decided they were not necessary for the overall appeal. Plus, the buttons wouldn't really be safe, as this ami is going to belong to a young child. The last amigurumi I have to show you guys is this Finn McMissile Ami. This was by far the most work I have ever put into an ami. I really think I may have underestimated how difficult it would be to crochet a car, but I really love the way it turned out! That is also partially the reason there are so many pictures of it, because I wanted to get it from all angles. Also, the different angles of the car are not shown on my Facebook page. So, if you were wondering what the heck was going on, I think all these pictures pretty much explain it. And believe me, this is just the beginning! There will be many more after Christmas. Also, since I have not mentioned it on here, I will be taking a break in January and possibly February so that I can make time to crochet things for our own little one that we are expecting. I have not had a chance to make her anything yet. But, keep checking my Facebook page and this blog, because there will still be blog entries even though I am not taking orders. There will most likely be tons of pictures of baby blankets, hats, mittens, booties and that sort of thing coming in the next couple months. So, stay tuned! Thanks for stopping by and I can't wait until after Christmas so I can show off all of the other cute things I have been making!
I hope everyone is ready for Thanksgiving this year, I can't believe it is already next week! I know I am ready, except I will not be cooking or cleaning or doing much of anything other than eating, lol. At least that is the plan. Speaking of the holidays, I just want to let you all know that I will be taking Christmas orders between now and December 1st. If you would like to order an item and need it by Christmas, that will be the cutoff, mainly so I will be able to make it and ship it out for arrival before Christmas. I will be accepting orders for items not required by Christmas all throughout December though. After that I might take a little bit of a break, as I have a little one expected to enter the world at the very beginning of February and have made nothing for her yet. But, let's take a step back for a minute because Christmas is still a little while away. The past weekend, my friends and I had our annual "Thankskilling Party", which is basically where we get together and eat way too much food and watch Thankskilling, a horrible movie about a killer turkey. We decided to do a "pumpkin off" this year and see who could make the best pumpkin dish, and the prize would be the crocheted turkey pictured above. I really love how the turkey came out! He looks super ridiculous but was desired by all. I crocheted the turkey using Red Heart Super Saver yarn in various colors, and my fiance, Daniel, made the mask out of felt. I was hoping to make a couple more items for Thanksgiving this year, but the month just seems to be flying by, so I will probably have to wait until next year. Some things you can look forward to in the very near future are of course, lots of new pictures of custom items, and a pattern for my Oogie Boogie Amigurumi. I will hopefully have that pattern up by next week. Perfect for Christmas! This month just seemed to fly by, and tomorrow is Halloween! I know my blog posts have been few and far between lately, there has just been so much going on. We have been trying to get a lot of Halloween activities in while we still can and with baby number two on the way and a lot of other baby showers and orders, I find myself hardly on my site anymore. But, I promise you will be seeing a lot more of me in the near future. I have so many little projects going on right now it is insane. But for now, here are a few things that I have been working on over the past couple weeks. One of the things I just finished up was a little Winnie the Pooh Halloween costume set for a friend of mine. The Winnie the Pooh hat worked up really quickly and was very easy and fun to make. The booties were a little more challenging, but I had a lot of fun designing them. I wanted them to kind of look like the Reebok with the velcro straps. I absolutely adore how they came out, and I promise you will be seeing a girly pair in the near future for my little one on the way. Also part of that same order, was this very cute Doggie Hat. I love his floppy little ears! In addition to the Doggie and Winnie the Pooh Hat and booties. I also made a couple variations of some of my Halloween hats, pictured below. I also wrote up a pattern for my Frankie's Lil' Monster Hat. Keep an eye out for it on the Patterns page of my site. So, thanks for stopping by, and I hope you all have a safe but very very scary and fun Halloween!!! Sorry I haven't been updating the blog quite as much lately. We have been going a million miles an hour in a thousand different directions lately. We celebrated my daughter's 4th Birthday over the past couple weekends in two different states. We are also expecting another little girl so I am starting some baby blankets for her. Also, a lot of the orders that have been made in the past month or so are replicas of previous items and I don't want to bore you with the same stuff over and over again. I should have some new exciting holiday stuff coming up in the near future though, so keep an eye out for that!! But for now I wanted to share a couple of the items I have made this month. I made this custom Boba Fett hat a few weeks ago. It was a lot more work than I originally expected, but totally worth it in the end. I didn't use a pattern for this item, just kind of winged it, hehe. The red part in the front of the helmet, the sides(not necessarily the embellishments), and the hat itself were all made with Red Heart Super Saver Yarn, which I normally use if I am not making a blanket. The rest, including the black part behind the red part of the helmet is felt. I needed to use a lot of felt for this just to get it as detailed as possible. I think after this project I am going to look into using fabric glue...sewing on all these tiny parts gets a little tedious. In addition to the Boba Fett hat, I also made a custom Oogie Boogie Amigurumi (pictured below) for my BFF for her birthday. I didn't really have a whole lot to compare him to, so this one was completely my own and I found it hard to find any inspiration anywhere. He is green, like the blacklight Oogie Boogie from the movie, which she wanted, instead of the standard potato sack looking one. I hope you guys enjoy!!! I can't wait to share some of the stuff I will be making in the coming months, including a crocodile stitch baby blanket replica (I originally saw a picture of the blanket online but am recreating it myself without a pattern)!!!
I have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to make all kinds of things in the past couple of weeks. It has kept me very busy and once again challenged me in new ways. This is a Pinkie Pie Amigurumi I made for a friend as a birthday present. I still have not had the chance to give it to her, but cannot wait to. The eyes were quite a hassle to make, but I really wanted to take my time so I could get the adorable anime eye type of look that she needed. I used felt to make the eyes and mouth, Caron Simply Soft Yarn for the pony's body and cutie mark, and 100% Cotton Peaches N Creme Yarn for the hair. I hope you guys enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed making it. I may be making something similar (but probably a unicorn) for my daughter in the near future, so keep an eye out for it! Also as a custom order last week I made this adorable Brown and Blue Spotted Piggy Ami. I made the eyes and nose holes with felt, the body with Red Heart Super Saver Yarn, and the polka dots with Caron Simply Soft Yarn. This one was a lot less challenging than the pony, but was still very time consuming with all of the spots. The ears were also a bit of a challenge, but making two layers seemed to make them a lot more poseable. This is another ami I would really like to try and attempt again in the future...maybe without the polka dots, hehe. The one last bit of news I have is that I am participating in a Giveaway this week. For those of you that don't follow me on Facebook, follow the link below and follow the instructions to enter the contest. It is being held by Sew Crafty Baby, and there are all kinds of amazing prizes, including an Infant Size Mickey Mouse Earflap Hat from Hook In Mouth Crochet!!!
I have been wanting to make either a hat or an ami of Gir for a long time, and luckily I got a chance to make not just one, but two Gir hats this week. The coolest part about it? I got to make a robot and a dog version of Gir! I decided I would stuff the eyes on both, which I normally don't do, but it seemed necessary for these two just for authenticity. Here is another look at the Doggie Gir Hat, modeled by my daughter, Violet. She isn't smiling like I would have liked her to, but she is three, what can I really expect. Besides, I kind of like the crazy look for this hat. I used Red Heart Super Saver Yarn for this hat, and felt for the nose and tongue. The ears were kind of a pain because I couldn't seem to get the right angle for them, but I think I eventually got it right. And here is another look at the Robot Gir Hat. This one being modeled by my younger sister Maggie. I think the robot one looks way cuter when worn, it just didn't really photograph well sitting by itself. I also used Red Heart Super Saver for this hat, and only used felt for the tongue. I hope you guys enjoy. There should be a lot more to come in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out!
