Instructions:
Start with a Magic Circle. Do not ch 1 and do not turn between rows, just keep working in a circle.
Hat Base:
Row 1: 6 sc inside magic circle
Row 2: Inc in each sc around (12 sc total)
Row 3: * inc, sc in next st*. Repeat * around (18 sc total)
Row 4: *inc, sc in next 2 st*. Repeat * around (24 sc total)
Row 5: *inc, sc in next 3 st*. Repeat * around (30 sc total)

Row 13: * inc, sc in next 11 st*. Repeat * around (78 sc total). Row 13 is for Adult Large Size Hat only.
Hat Body:
Row 1: hdc in each st around. 60 hdc for Infant Size, 66 hdc for Toddler/Child Size, 72 hdc for Adult Standard Size, 78 hdc for Adult Large.
Row 2-3: Repeat Row 1.
Row 4-10: Switch to Green. Repeat Row 1. For Infant Size: stop at Row 10, sl st into next hdc and tie off. Move on to Earflap Section.
Row 11: Repeat Row 1. For Toddler/Child Size: stop at Row 11 sl st into next hdc and tie off. Move on to Earflap Section.
Row 12: Repeat Row 1. For Adult Standard Size: stop at Row 12, sl st into next hdc and tie off. Move on to Earflap Section.

Row 3: dc dec, 4 hdc, dc dec. Ch 1, turn
Row 4: hdc in each st (6 hdc). Tie off.
Repeat on opposite side of hat.
Toddler/Child Earflaps:
Row 1: Begin in Green. Sl st into a hdc on the bottom of the hat to connect the yarn, ch 1. Hdc in next 10 st. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: hdc in each st (10 hdc). Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: dc dec, 6 hdc, dc dec. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4: hdc in each st (8 hdc). Ch 1, turn.
Row 5: hdc in each st (8hdc). Tie off.
Repeat on opposite side of hat.
Adult Standard and Adult Large Earflaps:
Row 1: Begin in Green. Sl st into a hdc on the bottom of the hat to connect the yarn, ch 1. Hdc in next 12 st. Ch 1, turn.

Row 4: dc dec, 8 hdc, dc dec. Ch 1, turn.

Row 4: hdc in each st (8 hdc). Ch 1, turn.

Adult Standard and Adult Large Earflaps:
Row 1: Begin in Green. Sl st into a hdc on the bottom of the hat to connect the yarn, ch 1. Hdc in next 12 st. Ch 1, turn.

Row 4: dc dec, 8 hdc, dc dec. Ch 1, turn.
Row 5: hdc in each st (10 hdc). Ch 1, turn.

Hat Border & Stitching:
Border:
Connect Black yarn with a sl st and sc all around bottom of hat and earflaps to create a border.
Stitching:
Cut off about a 20” length of Black Yarn and weave in the stitch design pictured below. It is located around the upper left corner of the top of the hat.

Earflap Knobs:
Start off with a Magic Circle
Row 1: 6 sc in Magic Circle
Row 2: inc each sc around (12 sc total)
Row 3: sl st into the back loop only of each sc around
Row 4-6: sc each st around.
Tie off. Repeat to make 2 knobs.
Fill each knob with Poly-fil or your filling, then pin down in the center of each earflap and sew on using Grey Thread.
Strings & Puffballs:
For Infant & Toddler/Child Size Hats: Connect Green Yarn with a sl st to the center sc st on the bottom of the earflap. Ch 40, tie off. Connect Black yarn in sc st next to green ch. Ch 40, tie off. Connect Black yarn in sc st on the other side of green ch. Ch 40, tie off. Braid the 3 chains together and tie ends together. Repeat on other earflap.
For Adult Standard and Adult Large Hats: Connect Green Yarn with a sl st to the center sc st on the bottom of the earflap. Ch 50, tie off. Connect Black yarn in sc st next to green ch. Ch 50, tie off. Connect Black yarn in sc st on the other side of green ch. Ch 50, tie off. Braid the 3 chains together and tie ends together. Repeat on other earflap.
Start off with a Magic Circle

Tie off. Repeat to make 2 knobs.

Connect Black yarn in sc st on the other side of green ch. Ch 40, tie off. Braid the 3 chains together and tie ends together. Repeat on other earflap.
For Adult Standard and Adult Large Hats: Connect Green Yarn with a sl st to the center sc st on the bottom of the earflap. Ch 50, tie off. Connect Black yarn in sc st next to green ch. Ch 50, tie off. Connect Black yarn in sc st on the other side of green ch. Ch 50, tie off. Braid the 3 chains together and tie ends together. Repeat on other earflap.
Puffballs: Cut a small length of yarn, about 6 inches. This will be used to tie together the puffball. Wrap a good amount of yarn around the base of your fingers (pictured above). Cut yarn once you have a decent amount wrapped. Carefully remove yarn from your fingers and tie the 6” of yarn from earlier around center of bundle. Connect yarn bundle to the bottom of the braided chains. Cut the ends of the yarn bundle to create the puffball (pictured below). It is not necessary, but I would suggest sewing the center of the puffballs so you cannot easily pull out lengths of string.
Weave in and cut off all loose ends and enjoy!!!
